It\u2019s about building organizations where more people feel safe, heard and able to contribute fully. That kind of culture doesn\u2019t come from a single training or a beautifully written policy. It\u2019s shaped by the systems we design, the choices we make and the way we treat one another every day.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">DEI isn\u2019t a department, it\u2019s a way of operating<\/h2>\n\n<p>Many teams <a href=\"https:\/\/thirdwunder.com\/blog\/accessibility-is-a-team-effort\/\">begin their DEI journey<\/a> with good intentions. A dedicated committee, a few workshops, a calendar of observances. These are all important first steps, but they don\u2019t quite get to the heart of the matter.<\/p>\n\n<p>True inclusion isn\u2019t a project to complete or a task to delegate. It\u2019s something we build into the fabric of how our organizations function. It lives in how we hire, how we make decisions, how we lead and how we respond when things go wrong.<\/p>\n\n<p>In other words, equity works best when it\u2019s not an \u201cextra.\u201d It\u2019s most powerful when it\u2019s woven into everything.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Beyond performative action<\/h2>\n\n<p>Many organizations moved quickly to respond to calls for racial justice in 2020.
